Zondag 22 januari is de zilveren camera uitgereikt. Joost van den Broek is terecht de winnaar en bevestigd zijn oog en kunde om op de juiste plek te staan op het juiste moment.
Ook ik heb dit jaar voor het eerst de sprong in het diepe gewaagd en een serie ingestuurd voor binnenlands documentair. Omdat ik het nog nooit gedaan had vond ik het wel intressant wat er precies zou gaan gebeuren.
Just to start with. For quite some time i have this site and blog that i am adapting. Not a lot of posts that i added recently so i started fresh. Now the Big Question came up. As i am based in the Netherlands and of course we speak dutch overhere the big question is am i going to write in English or in dutch.
I could do both the drawback is maintaining a multi-site wordpress installation. even that is not hard with my IT background but adds up the maintenance work of keeping 2 wordpress installations in sync.
To write in english means that i reach out to the world. But because i am a photographer just starting i do not have a global market yet. Time magazine or getty images are not my customers, maybe never will be.
Dutch is my native language and also is the market i am in at the moment.
It just might be something of focus, who is the customer?, who are you writing this for?
The big question is Do i blog in dutch or in english?

Om mee te beginnen, Dit is een vertaling van wat er boven staat. en gelijk de kern van de post. I ben al weer een tijdje bezig en niet lang geleden heb ik een nieuwe wordpress installatie en theme klaargezet. Maar nu komt de grote vraag. Ik woon en werk natuurlijk in nederland. Het Internet is globaal, Mijn fotografie en zeker mijn series en projecten zouden een globale markt kunnen gebruiken. Alleen op dit moment is Time Magazine niet mijn klant ook Getty Images niet en waarschijnlijk zullen ze dat ook niet zomaar worden. Dus de grote vraag is ga ik in the engels schrijven of in het nederlands.
Ik zou allebei kunnen doen maar het nadeel daarvan is dat ik 2 wordpress installaties synchroon moet houden. Technisch is dat niet zo’n probleem met mijn IT Achtergrond maar geeft wel extra werk en mogelijke problemen.
Op dit moment begeef ik me in een nederlandse markt. Opdrachten zullen niet zomaar buiten nederland komen voor buitenlandse opdrachtgevers.
de vraag is nu wie is de klant? en voor wie schrijf je?
De vraag is dus Ga ik bloggen in het nederlands of het engels?

After seeing Gasland i was shocked. Ofcourse it is an American documentary about Shale Gas drilling in the United States but the concerns are real. The people of haaren are not happy about the drilling. It might happen in their backyard. And what could happen to them nobody knows.
Now that Shale Gas drilling is happening in the Netherlands. Germany and France have their problems too. In France drilling is stopped, In Germany there are problems. The environmental and economical impact is huge. Continue reading
Amvest asked me to document their new apartment buildings. On Ijburg a new development zone in Amsterdam. Amvest developed Terazze and Mura also called Blok 65 a-b. The purpose of these image was to document the current building but also provide images to use for IDA 2011 which will be held on Ijburg in Amsterdam. The images will be used in the Elle Decorations and for more i do not yet know. Continue reading
For their new Bugaboo Donkey stroller launch, bugaboo did an event at the Dam and Vondelpark in Amsterdam. They would walk with male models to deliver balloons to pregnant women and mothers with children.
The Children loved the balloons. And the pregnant Women loved the male models.
For my graduation serie for the Fotovakschool in Amsterdam i created Daytime Activities.
A photographic study to find out what elderly people do from day to day.
For the first part (image 1 – 6) i went to a nursing home to photograph a elderly women. She was alone and lived in the nursing home. every Tuesday and Thursday she goes to group gatherings where she drinks a cup of coffee, talks with other elderly people, does a games or does some coloring. The group is around 12 people and they can be really funny. But she was alone and had 1 friend on which she waited every tuesday to arrive (she is not shown in the series). Every Tuesday and Thursday the whole group lunches together, they get a hot meal and a fun afternoon. The other days she sits at home behind the geraniums knitting and waiting on the next Tuesday or Thursday.
Second part is about Kees and Truus (image 6 – 16) They are well in their 90s and they are still very active. Every year they go on vacation to Friesland by bike! That is a bike ride of around 8 to 10 hours. The Netherlands is a bicycle country but young people do ride a bike that far.
Every morning they awake together to eat breakfast together, Cees makes fresh orange juice with a slice of lemon every morning after which they drink some coffee and look into newspapers. After that they go for a ride on the bike and take a walk on the beach with a good cup of hot chocolate at the end.
In the pictures you see a small portion of their daily lives, What i have seen is that when people get older their world tends to get smaller. They see less of the world their interest also. When you live in the nursing homes life gets even smaller and happens only around the nursing home, everything is far away even the things that happen around the corner.
For a report about independence a fire department in the Netherlands asked me to create some portraits to add into their report.
The portraits were made of team members and added into the report to identify who participated.

We all visited an exhibition once. When it would be the dutch huishoudbeurs where a lot of traditional ladies shop for the latest and greatest of home cleaning. Or the Auto Rai (THE Car exhibit of the Netherlands) where primarily men come and lunch is the traditional Broodje kroket (A Sub with Croquet with Meat Ragout).
For every exhibition a specific kind of person visits it and they come in large packs.
I was curious about what type of person comes on what exhibition so i started to photograph people on these exhibits. I expect it to last months maybe years before i visited enough exhibits.We all visited an exhibition once.
